Meet Auz
The Baker
Hometown: I grew up in Norwood, MA.
Education: I attended Norwood High School and Johnson
and Wales University. I got my
Associates in Baking and Pastry and my Bachelors in Food Service
Management.
What are your primary
responsibilities? I bake all the
cakes. I also make the bases to the mousses, curds, frostings, ganache…
Basically, if something requires heat or cooking, I make it. Also, when I started in the kitchen, I worked
for the pastry department for 4 years so I am able to fill in where ever
needed. Whether its filling cakes or
jumping on the retail counter, I am able to lend a hand.
How did you end up at
Dessert Works? Well, I’ve been here
for 6 years now. I was 16 and It was the
summer before my senior year of high school.
I started thinking about what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted something that would be fast
paced and hands on. I had always enjoyed
cooking and baking and thought a chef would be a good fit. Plus, I love to eat! I interviewed for a
retail position and got the job and as time went on, kitchen positions opened
and I’ve been here ever since.
What is your favorite
item we have at Dessert Works? Everything. Literally.
What is your favorite
part of your job? I get to make cake
for a living! Who wouldn’t love
that? I like that it’s science, how the
ingredients work together and what they all do fascinates me. I also love that everything we do at Dessert
Works is made here, from scratch. When I
started here, Kristen really took me under her wing and taught me to embrace
the trade and I really have grown to love it.
I have a lot of respect for the hard work and team environment
here. I think that since I started here
so young, that has given me an advantage.
Everyone I work with here is so talented. The more I saw Kristen’s work
and how much she strives to be the best, it has made a huge impact on me and
has made me push myself to continue to produce a great product
consistently. I’m proud of what I do. I work hard and continue to improve. Looking back I have learned so much. I’ve made mistakes, but they have made me
better and there is no work I would rather be doing.
